Special Spicy Tofu Burger Recipe

Veganism is now a very widespread food habit. You can even find many vegan recipes on the food recipe blog of Foodism, whether it is savoury or dessert! Personally, we love to try out vegan recipes, so we thought, why not give Tofu burgers a try as well! Today, we have 2 tofu burger recipes for you, both equally delicious, let’s begin!


Recipe 1 – Spicy Tofu Burger


For the Tofu:

  • 16 ounces Firm Tofu (450g)

For the Marinade Sauce:

  • 2 Tbsp Soy Sauce
  • 1 Tbsp Maple Syrup
  • 1 Tbsp Peanut Butter
  • ½ tsp Garlic Powder

For the Mushroom Sauce:

  • 5 cups Cremini Mushrooms (480g)
  • 2 Tbsp Soy Sauce
  • 1 cup Canned Coconut Cream (240ml) Unsweetened
  • 1 tsp Cornstarch

For Serving:

  • 4 Hamburger Buns
  • Lettuce
  • Tomato
  • Pickles


  1. Put the tofu on to press for 20 minutes. Either use a tofu press or place the tofu on a plate with another plate on top of it and then place something heavy on top like a heavy pot.
  2. Preheat the oven to 350°F (180°C).
  3. When pressed, cut the tofu into four square burgers.
  4. Line a baking tray with parchment paper. Place the tofu burgers evenly on the parchment paper and bake in the oven for 30 minutes, turning the tofu over after 15 minutes.
  5. Mix up the marinade sauce by adding soy sauce, maple syrup, peanut butter and garlic powder to a bowl and whisking together.
  6. When the burgers have finished baking, brush marinade sauce generously onto both sides of the burgers and leave them to marinate for 5 minutes.
  7. Heat up a pan with a little oil and when hot, add the tofu burgers to the pan and fry on each side until golden.
  8. Brush on more marinade sauce while the tofu is frying. The tofu burgers are ready to serve.
  9. Mushroom sauce: Add sliced mushrooms and soy sauce to a skillet, cover with a lid and turn the heat to medium-high.
  10. When the mushrooms have released their water and are bubbling away remove the lid and let the excess water cook-off.
  11. When the water is mostly evaporated, pour in the coconut cream and bring to a simmer.
  12. Keep stirring until the sauce thickens. Prepare your hamburger buns, adding lettuce, sliced tomato and pickles.
  13. Add the tofu burger, top it with mushroom sauce and serve.


Recipe 2 – Tofu Patty

Here we have another Tofu Burger recipe, which requires an egg!


  • 1 pound / 16 oz / 450 g extra-firm tofu, drained and patted dry, then sliced
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup / 2 oz / 55 g fine dried bread crumbs, plus more if needed
  • 1/2 cup / 2 oz / 55 g cashew nuts
  • 1/2 cup / 2 oz /55g sunflower seeds
  • 1/2 cup / 2 oz / 55g sliced mushrooms
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cayenne
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika (optional)
  • 1/4 teaspoon fine grain sea salt
  • 1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil

extras: whatever buns & condiments you like!


  1. Place all the ingredients except the olive oil in a food processor.
  2. Pulse until the mixture comes together and is free of most chunks, stopping to scrape down the sides of the food processor once or twice if needed. If it seems a bit thin to you, add more bread crumbs a handful at a time until everything comes together.
  3. Divide the mixture into eight equal portions and use your hands to (really) press and form into round but flat-ish patties.
  4. If you want larger burgers, shape them into 4-5 patties. Allow sitting for ten minutes or so. You can also refrigerate at this point.
  5. If grilling, gently rub each patty with a bit of olive oil and place on a medium-hot grill. Grill, covered, usually 5-7 minutes on the first side, and 4-5 on the flip. Be sure the centres are cooked.
  6. If cooking on a stovetop, pour the olive oil into your largest skillet over medium-high heat and arrange as many patties as you can without crowding. Cover, and cook turning once, until deeply browned on both sides. Roughly ten minutes.
  7. You want to make sure the middle of the patties cooks through. If the pan is too hot, you’ll burn the outsides before the middle cooks up, so be mindful of that.
